DESCRIPTION:
In the Delta de l’Ebre Natural Park and there are several types of spaces, one of the most unique are the lagoons and in particular the lagoon called “La bassa de les Olles”. This space that we will visit today, and we will not only visit, but we will taste it with the five senses, is the smallest lagoon of the Delta, with 54 Ha of total surface, but also it is the one that has greater biodiversity, for the its proximity to the sea on one side, where it is separated only by a thin barrier of dunes and a wild beach of the few that remain on our shores, also by the wild vegetation of its environment, with reeds as the dominant plant, refuge of life and nesting of many species of birds, but also of reptiles, amphibians and small mammals, and the pantry that for all of them means the proximity of the rice fields, which border largely “La Bassa de les Olles ”as a cultivated agricultural area. In its waters of variable salinity, mainly low, by the entrance of waters coming from the irrigation channels of the left margin of the river, that end previously at the base before entering the sea, and the little salinity which gives it a fine balance of levels of the waves of the bay that enter the lagoon by its mouth, this saline variability generates the ideal environment for many fish that live in its waters.
Our outing will be more than that, it will be an interactive experience for the senses, so we will visualize and identify various birds from wetlands and we can record them on a sheet with their name and image, or take pictures. Also the fish that can be seen on the edges of the lagoon or its entry and exit channels. We will hear the silence, interrupted only by the birdsong, and we will also hear the waves of the sea on the beach of Fangar Bay and the gushing of the water from the canals. We will feel the textures of the delta, vegetation, mud, water, sand, some of them almost exclusively formed by small particles of crustacean shells in the area. And with taste and smell we will experience some of the edible plants and flowers of this diverse and fun environment.
I suggest a quiet, quiet start, where we will skirt to complete the pond by paths and trails, with a total of 3.5 km ending again at the starting point.
Here we go?
